Gavi de Tarr is currently playing lead trumpet for the national tour of One Night with Janis Joplin, written and directed by Randy Johnson (Always Patsy Cline, Elvis: The Concert) and produced in association with the Joplin estate. When not on tour, Gavi plays and teaches in the Portland metro area. He holds a Bachelor's of Music in Composition and a Master's Degree in Education from Portland State University, and works frequently as a sectional teacher and clinician at several Portland middle and high schools.

Gavi plays trumpet with the Portland band Funk Shui and keyboard in the group Ocean Age, for which he also composes and arranges.
